More reviews of Predators and mention by Joelle Carter

In another interview with the lovely Joelle Carter, they discussed Justified and Walton was brought up again and here is what was said:

Adam: The show is so well acted, including Walton Goggins’ portrayal of Boyd Crowder. He’s definitely one of the most believable villains on TV. Tell me about your scenes with him. And watching the series again on TV, what did you think of Boyd?

Joelle: I think I might love Boyd’s character as much as I love AVA … maybe? He is given such complex stuff to juggle and performs it with such ease. I feel like Walton finds the deep truth in his characters and plays them full-hearted and it is wonderful to watch and a privilege to be a part of a scene with him. I am a lucky girl.

Adam: In the end of season 1, we saw the showdown between Boyd, his dad, the drug circulations, and Raylan. And you were right in the middle of it. Tell me about the awesomely chaotic season finale.

Joelle: Well, let’s see – there were 15 shootings and 13 deaths. Don’t quote me, but I know it was something crazy like that. I was very happy not to receive any bullet holes or to have any graves dug for Ava. I was thrilled to be in the mix. The scene Tim, Walton and I shot when were trapped in the cabin was pretty intense. They rigged the whole cabin with small explosives to make it look like we were being sprayed with bullets. They basically had one take to get the shot. The three of us were told to cover our heads and close our eyes. I must say, there wasn’t a whole lot of acting required. As soon as the director yelled ‘action’, the room was torn apart and I dug my head in deep and didn’t look up till I heard ‘cut’. It was pretty exciting.

Best Supporting Actor

Dark Horse: Walton Goggins, Justified: White supremacist Boyd Crowder was meant to be a fleeting character on the series, but Goggins and Timothy Olyphant’s adversarial chemistry kept him around

Joelle Carter’s thoughts on Walton

Timothy Olyphant says working with Walton is “Fantastic”

Justified’s Timothy Olyphant spoke of Walton in a recent interview and here is what he had to say:

Do you enjoy working with Walton Goggins, who plays Boyd?
“He’s fantastic. And he just gets better and better. The story between Boyd and Raylan really becomes the major story of the season. Walt’s performance is just spot on and just so entertaining. I think it was Elmore who said after watching one or two of his episodes, ‘You know what, I don’t think I believe a word of what this guy’s saying but I can’t take my eyes off him’. You know, he’s just so entertaining. A real captivating performance.”

Guest stars who made big impressions

And yet, reincarnation is exactly what happened to Goggins, whose bank-robbing Boyd went from shot dead at the end of the “Justified” pilot (which was also the conclusion of Elmore Leonard’s original short story, which the show is based on), to a recovered thorn in Kentucky lawman Raylan Givens’ side in the hit cable drama.

“We knew we had something special,” says “Justified” showrunner Graham Yost about Goggins’ casting. “Then FX said, ‘Guys, what’s coming out of testing is that people are disappointed when he dies, that they think he’s a great foil for Raylan. Could we keep him alive?’ We said, ‘That’s a no-brainer.’ ”

Goggins’ magnetic villainy and ability to keep you guessing as to Boyd’s motives gave the writers the ideal counterweight to Timothy Olyphant’s good-guy cool. His work didn’t just light up the screen, it inspired the writers.

“Not only do Raylan and Boyd have a history, but the fact that Raylan can see through Boyd, and Boyd knew that, led us into a new part of the story for us that wasn’t in the Elmore short story,” says Yost. “The big arc became Raylan and Boyd. As soon as we landed on it, it just opened up so many ideas for stories and gave a coherence to our first season.”
